Dr Tokieda will show a medley of magic tricks. These tricks are quite surprising, but after the show everybody will become able to do them. Though people tend to think of mathematics as numbers and formulas, we shall see that there is perfectly good mathematics everywhere, in particular in a ribbon, paperclips, rubber bands.
Dr Tadashi Tokieda, AIMS, Cambridge, Harvard, is the Director of Studies in Mathematics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and a Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard. He has been teaching at AIMS since its foundation. He was born in Japan, grew up partly in France, and has a Ph.D. from Princeton.
