The scenic south is home to exceptional individuals, amongst them Lewis Pugh from Noordhoek.  Lewis recently made world headlines when he swam 1km in the freezing waters of a lake on Mt Everest and is known as the greatest cold water swimmer in history.   He is fondly known as “the human polar bear”.  He has many other great attributes, including his passion for the environment and his crusade for global awareness about climate change.  Daily news about the human impact on Earth can be daunting and de-energising, but Lewis’s incredible achievements are an indisputable example of the power of the human spirit.
