Scoop for the Masque! Paul Slabolepszy’s “The Return of Elvis du Pisanie” will run for two weekends only viz Friday 18 – Saturday 26 January.

Paul Slabolepszy’s “The Return of Elvis du Pisanie” will run for two weekends in January at the Masque Theatre This brilliant one man play enjoyed a record-breaking harvest of awards and international engagements. It won the Vita, Fleur de Cup and Dalro awards for best new South African play in its debut year and is a great example of marrying poignancy and comedy. This time round, it is directed by Amanda Bothma and performed by Pieter-Schalk Bothma who started his acting career in 1989, aged six years, and in 2000 he was awarded the Eastern Cape Premier’s Award for Excellence in Performing Arts.  In 2011, he performed “The Return of Elvis du Pisanie” at the Art’s Theatre in East London to standing ovations.

Set in 1992, it tells the story of Eddie du Pisanie who, after 30 years, returns to Witbank in a last desperate attempt to meet up with Elvis. It is a tale of a failed under-floor heating salesman, with a past, who seeks to reclaim the nostalgia of a bygone era that contrasts totally with the steely reality of his life. “The Return of Elvis du Pisanie” certainly promises to stir melancholy and awaken laughter.

The run is at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg on Friday 18; Saturday 19; Friday 25 and Saturday 26 January.  Times are  8pm on Fridays and 6.30 on Saturdays (with an extra performance on Saturday January 26 at 2.30pm. Ticket prices are R65 evenings and R55 for matinee (Masque Theatre Club Members enjoy a R10 discount). Book through Masque Theatre Bookings on 021 7881898 or email bookings@masquetheatre.co.za
