The Masque Theatre is synonymous with Muizenberg. It is a delightful community theatre that transports me back to a different era, to the time of bioscopes, drive-ins and roadhouses.

The Masque Theatre was established in 1959 by local attorney, the late Bertie Stern, on land that he purchased with the intention of creating a non-racial theatre featuring the best artists and actors of all races. You can imagine the opposition he encountered in the “old South Africa”. Good prevailed and the theatre flourished only to be gutted by fire in 1997. Thanks to the generosity of benefactors, the theatre was rebuilt and now seats 174 people. This little theatre needs public support and here are the ways in which you can help.

From the latest Masque newsletter …

We want to remind you about all the different ways in which you can support this great little community theatre.

Firstly, by coming to our shows.
That’s the most important thing – we have some great productions coming up. so book your eats now!

Secondly, by joining our Masque Theatre Club.
It only costs R60 p.a and in return you receive R10 off the price of your ticket to most of the productions (except a few of the outside shows.) So if you come to 6 or more productions a year you’ll be a winner. Phone Aubrey on 021 788 1898 or email him at bookings@masquetheatre.co.za for details of how to join for 2015 – it’s quick and easy.

Thirdly, by becoming a member of one of our Masque Supporters Clubs.
If you are willing and able to make a regular donation of either R50 a month or R100 a month you will become an official Masque ‘angel’ and your membership number will go into the lucky draw. Every month we give complimentary ticket vouchers worth over R1,200 to our kind ‘angels’ as our way of thanking them for their on-going support. Check our website or phone Julia Lloyd on 021 788 6999 to find out how to become a Masque ‘angel.
