The Muizenberg Community Safety Initiative (MCSI) and the Muizenberg Improvement District (MID) have developed a novel approach to safety on the beach – which will be launched on 24 September.
The current situation of ad hoc and illegal car-guards is to be replaced with a collaborative system of approved, security-cleared and well-trained “beach buddies” who are to assist visitors with information and safety matters on the beach. The system also has the full support of SAPS, City Law Enforcement, Metro Police and security firms; while beach-front businesses also welcome the innovative approach. The MCSI is currently recruiting, selecting and will soon be training the beach buddies. SAFER TOGETHER has offered to assist with some of the training.
