The adult male victim of the shark incident that occurred this afternoon, 1 August 2014, at Muizenberg Beach is in a stable condition.

According to the City of Cape Town’s information, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Muizenberg Beach will remain closed to the public until further notice.  The City will reassess the beach tomorrow morning.

As a matter of course, a shark incident report will be prepared as soon as possible.

Members of the public are urged to respect the closure of the beach as a precautionary measure.

According to Cape Talk, medical response teams arrived swiftly and the young man was flown by helicopter to hospital. It is believed that the shark was a Great White. The black flag was flying as visibility is poor and the back line, where the young man was surfing, is far out.
