Put on your dancing shoes for an evening of fun, humour and fabulous songs with Emile Minnie and Godfrey Johnson at Kalk Bay Theatre
Minnie And Johnson will be performed at Kalk Bay Theatre for seven shows only from 28 November until 7 December.
Fleur du Cap winner Johnson and SAMA award nominee Minnie will perform hits from the sixties to the naughties with just a piano, a clarinet and a wine glass for percussion. These two captivating artists light up the stage with their humour and energy as they rouse the crowd with songs such as Love is a stranger by The Eurythmics, Holding out for a hero by Bonnie Tyler and Putting on the Ritz by Irving Berlin. For that something extra they will also be performing popular French love songs, a Gaga-Madonna medley, as well as an original Afrikaanse treffer or two.
“The Cape Times described the show as ‘ a joy to behold…a good night out with friends’ and we couldn’t agree more,” says Simon Cooper, owner of Kalk Bay Theatre. “So grab your bag and your dancing shoes and head to Kalk Bay Theatre for a fun evening of entertainment.”
Award-winning artist Godfrey Johnson has performed over 20 one man shows nationally and internationally. After having worked for many years as a musician, director, composer, stage and film actor and accompanying Pieter-Dirk Uys in his various cabarets, Godfrey won the 2007 Fleur du Cap award for Best Performance in a Cabaret for his work in Kissed by Brel.

Godfrey directed The Cape Town Show, completed a hugely successful run of his one-man show, Season in The Sun at The Old Mutual Theatre on The Square and recently performed with Marc Lottering as part of the FNB Variété Festival.
Emile Minnie is a celebrated recording and cabaret artist. Last year he released his fifth Afrikaans album, Supernova and in 2009, his CD Nagmusiek was nominated for a South African Music Award for Best Alternative Afrikaans Album. His music has been described as ‘… a combination of Roger Waters, Vangelis and Nataniël, but totally new and incredibly fresh‘ and his performance as ‘sublime’ and ‘fluidity in motion’.
Emile studied music and French at the University of the Free State, where he met Johan Slabbert. The pair formed the band Vlam which went on to record CDs and win numerous awards, including a Kanna at the KKNK for their cabaret Vonk Voort! and two Geraas Musiek Award nominations for their album Bevonk. He has sung at international music festivals, and has performed his songs with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as with artists such as Danièle Pascal and Petronel Baard.
