Appearing in our morning concert in the foyer of the Masque Theatre, Main Road, Muizenberg, at 10h30 on Thursday 17 November, is the well-known flautist Derek Fennell, accompanied on piano by Sandra Kettle. Derek studied Music In Ireland and at Birmingham University, and completed his post-graduate studies at WITS University. He had a successful performance career in the UK and Europe, and completed an MA degree in Psychology for Musicians, before returning to South Africa. Sandra completed a Masters degree in Performance at UCT, after which she studied in Hannover, Germany. She has won second prize in the UNISA Overseas Competition, and was awarded a SAMRO Scholarship for overseas study. Their programme will include works by Mower, Widor, Bach and Beethoven. Tickets are R50. Please note that the theatre’s safe parking area will be available to us. 

 

Our evening concert at 20h00 on Wednesday 30 November features the popular Palm Strings Duo, consisting of Titia Blake (violin), and Michael Hoole (classical guitar). Titia was a member of the South African Youth Orchestra, and later studied at UCT, winning the Norman Nossell Competition and the CAPAB Chamber Music Competition. She was first violin with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra. Michael was awarded his BMus with distinction at UCT, and continued his studies in London. He has performed with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, and has represented South Africa in several international competitions. Their programme will include works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Piazolla, Bizet and Massenet. Drinks and snacks will be served from 19h00 (please note that we will provide the drinks). Dress is cocktail wear. Tickets are R105.
