Calling all budding photographers. Do you have an eye for what makes a good photograph? Do you enjoy photography and being outdoors?
Then the Kirstenbosch 100 Photographic Competition could be just what you’ve been waiting for.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden celebrates its 100th anniversary this year as does its partner NGO, the Botanical Society of South Africa (BotSoc). To highlight this achievement, the Kirstenbosch Branch of BotSoc will be running a photographic competition from 1 May to 31 October 2013.
Proudly sponsored by Canon and Orms Pro Photo Warehouse, prizes include a Canon 60D Camera and Lens, a Canon G1X Camera as well as exciting monthly prizes.
To enter, participants need to visit Kirstenbosch to capture photographs that focus on fauna, flora and/or landscapes, which must be taken in the Kirstenbosch Gardens during 2013.
Photographs may be taken with any camera or photographic device, so you can even use your smart phone to capture that winning entry.
The competition consists of two categories: Section A – Open, and Section B – Students (18 years and younger). Entry is free and entrants may submit up to three images per month.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning entries each month. Monthly winning images will be entered into the finals for the grand prizes – The Canon 60D and Lens (Section A) and the Canon G1X (Section B). Entrants are encouraged to submit new pictures every month to increase their chance of winning.
Selected entries from both categories will be posted on the BotSoc’s website as will the monthly winning entries. Selected entries will also be on display on a board at the Kirstenbosch Visitor’s Centre.
A final exhibition and prize giving will take place towards the end of the year once the judges have selected the winning entries.
