On Saturday 1 September the fourth Nelo Summer Challenge in Porto, Portugal took place. The race is number 11 on the World Series circuit and is the shortest course at 10 kilometers.  Fish Hoek brothers Dawid and Jasper Mocke went head to head the entire race, with younger brother Jasper narrowly beating Dawid at the final dash for the shoreline.  The bronze went to Sean Rice also of Fish Hoek.  Dawid’s second place finish was enough to stretch his lead on the Surfski World Series point log, and Jasper’s win sees him move up to second place.  The field also saw a number of former Olympians competing including Australia’s Kenny Wallace who was a gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Porto will next year play host to the first ever International Canoe Federation Surfski Ocean Racing World Championship where participants will compete for a jackpot of over R200 000.
