Who are we?
IkamvaYouth is a Youth-led organisation aiming to ease the access to post-school opportunities for high school learners.
We are offering free supplementary tutoring, career guidance, computer literacy and life skills.
What are the programme impacts?
Regarding last year results, once again these township youth have achieved results that far surpass the national averages, showing that the odds can indeed be overcome. Matrics from our nine branches across five provinces achieved an overall 82% pass rate, with 87% of those eligible for tertiary study (51% bachelor and 36% diploma).
There’s no doubt the educational challenges we face in this country are huge. Of the 1.3 million learners that start school each year, less than half will ever reach matric. It’s estimated only 37% of these will pass and a mere 14% will qualify to go to university.
However, with your support, there is reason for optimism. The results are remarkable when you consider most of these learners attended generally poor-performing township schools. Without your support, this kind of success would simply not be possible.
Also, just in case you didn’t receive a link for it last year, you can view our latest Annual report here.
What do we need?
We are actually recruiting our tutors and mentors for 2015. You need your High Senior Certificate (Matric), sometime in your hand and the willingness to share academic knowledge.
We are also looking for people available to offer their time to talk about their studies and jobs in order to inspire youth in their search for future.
At last we are seeking for any donations allowing educational outings to happen.
If you want to know more about IkamvaYouth, you are invited to our Open-Day on 7 February at 9.00am at the Masiphumelele Library.
