The Neighbourhood Watch gala concert will be tuneful and easy on the ear, catering for pretty well all tastes. It will feature music from romantic operettas and songs from the shows, and spectacular instrumental offerings, from classical piano to an electric guitar, a beguiling saxophone, a tap dancer extraordinaire, and a jazz and blues singer. You want variety, we’ve got it!!
When: Saturday 13 October at 19:30
Where: Fish Hoek High School Hall
Tickets cost R70 from AP Jones in FH or from the Neighbourhood Watch
Dermod Gloster will start the proceedings with “The Impossible Dream” – the closest he can get to a song about Neighbourhood Watch!! – and later will sing Viennese and Neapolitan songs, while soprano Liesl Hartje. who starred recently in “Yeomen of the Guard” at the Artscape, will sing the haunting Czardas from Die Fledermaus and an aria from Madam Butterfly.
Star violinist Quentin Crida, of Camerata Tinta Barocca fame, will present some exciting items from his repertoire, while the young electric guitarist Gavin Potter will have something quite different to offer. And by further contrast, pianist Coila Enderstein will play Chopin. Local icon Aubrey Hindle will present jazz and blues numbers, and Ami-Rose Barber will sing show tunes.
Tap dancer Debbie Jenkins, a former Moulin Rouge showgirl, will set our pulses racing, and saxophonist Debi, currently starring in the stage band of “Cabaret”, will delight us with a selection of swing music. And there’s lots more!!!
