Kay Price-Linday, of  Two Oceans Toastmasters based in Fish Hoek, rose above more than 30000 competitors around the world to be in amongst the 84 semi-finalists who met in Orlando, Florida on the 16th of August to contend for the title of World Champion of Public Speaking 2012.

As the Southern African Champion and proudly representing Two Oceans Toastmasters, toastmistress Kay surpassed fierce competition to win the hearts of the audience and judges alike with her speech, ‘Snap, Crackle, Pop’. The speech touched on the themes of dealing with pressure and how to handle those moments in life when you ‘pop’.

Kay Narrowly looses in her semi-final round to Ryan Avery of the USA who became World Champion.

Kay spent a grueling six months fine tuning her speech and also preparing a second speech should she go through to the finals. On the 16th of August, 84 contestants met in 9 different semi-final rounds to decide which nine speakers would make it to the final stage.  Kay was the last speaker of the day and the response from the audience was electric. When it came time to announce the winner, the crowd had to wait as the judging ballots were counted 3 times the result was so close.  In the end Kay was placed 2nd to an American Toastmaster Ryan Avery who then went on to win the Finals and be crowned the Champion for 2012. This means that Kay is now joint 10th in the world for Public Speaking!  Photo on RHS of Kay and Ryan.
