As the fires in Cape Town continue to burn for the fourth day, Cape Talk has set up a Fire Relief Fund. Fire fighters are currently fighting 15 fires raging across Cape Town’s Peninsula.

Residents say that these fires are worse than the devastating fires of 2000. So far over 4000 hectares have been burnt, 13 houses destroyed and many people have been left traumatised and displaced as hundreds of homes in Noordhoek, Tokai, Hout Bay and Constantia have been evacuated.

Cape Talk Pedge Line

Cape Talk has set up a pledge line so they can help raise money for much needed resources and equipment. You can call it on 021 446 4837.

Over R.7 million has been pledged so far (16:37 on Wed 4 March)

Animals affected by the fires

Our concern is not only for the people but also for the animals affected by the fires. The SPCA has not collected many animals despite the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Wildlife Unit being on the scene. However they have made a strong appeal to members of the public not to venture onto the mountainside in search of animals.

The way you can help is by donating:

dog and cat food

animal cages.

First aid equipment (cotton wool, bandages, blankets, towels etc)

Fire protective gear – clothing, boots, gloves

Large Water bowls
