Dear Interested and Affected Parties,
Extended two-way traffic accommodation during the December Builders’ Holiday and Summer holiday period.
The scheduled suspension of the Stop/Go was scheduled from 15th December to 24th January. Various Interested and Affected Parties, particularly the business communities of Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek, requested an extension of the suspension of the Stop / Go. To accommodate these requests, the project team undertook an intensive review of the programmed construction sequence.
At the last Community Liaison Meeting on the 16th of November 2015, it was stated that suspending the Stop / Go for a longer duration may be possible by requesting the contractor to accelerate the construction of the parapet wall adjacent to Clovelly Railway station. Following further investigation, this option was proven not to be possible as a result of a technical problem associated with the extreme complexity of the concrete shuttering.
However, notwithstanding the above, the project team has again reconsidered the programme and in view of the excellent progress with the backfilling behind the new concrete retaining wall, it has been possible to rearrange the construction sequence in order to allow two way traffic for a longer period than originally agreed to.
As a consequence of this, the construction sequence will be adjusted when works re-commence at the end of the Builders’ Holidays on the 11th of January 2016. At this time, construction work will take place at the Clovelly end of the project instead of the section between Kalk Bay Harbour entrance and Wooley’s Pool. Work on the section between Kalk Bay Harbour entrance and Wooley’s Pool will now only recommence on the 7th March 2016, at which time the Stop / Go will be reinstated.
As a result of the above two way traffic will be maintained from 15th December 2015 until the Stop / Go is reinstated on 7th March 2016.
