The story of a classic love affair, SAME TIME NEXT YEAR” runs at Kalk Bay Theatre from the May 22  – June 22 at 20:00

Paul DuToit performing in SAME TIME NEXT YEAR at Kalk Bay TheatreSAME TIME NEXT YEAR” tells the story of two people, both married to others, who meet by chance at a country inn, have an affair, fall in love and then agree to meet once a year at the same time at the same place. The play by Bernard Slade has delicious wit, compassion, poignancy, a sense of humor and a feel for nostalgia. A genuinely romantic story, the plot follows the love affair of Doris and George who meet once a year and are in fact the loves of each other’s lives.  Twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly played out by Paul Du Toit (Binneland, The Rocky Horror Show) Julie Hartley (Noises Off, Lipstick Dipstiek).  Christopher Weare (The Mechanicals) directs these two seasoned actors in this funny story of emotional intimacy against the background of social changes in the years 1951 to 1975.

Julie Hartley performing in SAME TIME NEXT YEAR at Kalk Bay TheatreOne of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, SAME TIME NEXT YEAR” ran for four years on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for lead actress Ellen Burstyn. It remains one of the world’s most widely produced plays.

After its season at Kalk Bay Theatre the production transfers the Grahamstown National Arts Festival.
