HARBOUR, the Kalk Bay musical, written by Seymour Howe with David Muller & Bill Knight, is being brought back by overwhelming public demand to the Cottage Club on February 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th.
This delightfully, warm and amusing musical, offering a slice out of the vibrant life of a local fisherman has been a hit for the last fifteen years. David Muller, the flamboyant and well-known local actor, most recently seen at The Masque Theatre  “Oom Schalk Lourens” , returns to the Cottage Club as “Tommy“ in Seymour Howe’s home-grown Kalk Bay musical play, HARBOUR.

Muller’s rollicking performance wrenches every nuance out of Howe’s insightful script, presenting a slice out of the vibrant life of a local fisherman “Tommy”, whose family has run the seas around the Blou-Dam (False Bay), since “before the railway line came through”. Tommy leads the audience on a mystical journey from Kalk Bay to Devil’s Peak, from Smitswinkel Bay to Namaqualand, sharing his simple insights into life, loss and laughter, and the two loves of his life; his faithful boat, “Maraai KB 683”, and his not-so-faithful “goose” Maraai.

Bill Knight’s passionate accompaniment on vocals and guitar provide an almost ghostly counterpoint to the story telling, which is snugly woven around Knight’s original music and deeply poetical lyrics, which are best described as Skollierock (Kaapse Mengsel) – contemporary folk Music with a strong Cape Town flavour. A bit of respite from the current turbulence in the local fishing industry this show rolls with swells of laughter as much as it is tickled in the shallows with rippling pathos. Its audience is invited to share a little smaakie of Tommy’s life and his quirky view of local culture and music and is bound to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
