This young elephant seal male has been around the peninsula for a while. He was first tagged in Buffels Bay, Cape Point last year.
If you look at the images in this post, he is developing a trunk. He is also going through a moult which usually takes up to two weeks, in which time they prefer to rest and stay out of the sea.
Please assist us with keeping all dogs away from him because he is particularly unhappy when they are nearby. If for the time being, dog walkers must check his location and completely avoid him.
The authorities recommend keeping a distance of 20m from him. He is very mobile even though he appears lazy and will chase and injure anyone who threatens him.
We welcome visitors like this and it is a great reminder of how privileged we all are living so close to nature.
