Brett Herron, the City MayCo Member for Transport, deserves our thanks for his continuing efforts to encourage cycling in Cape Town,  with safer cycling lanes and now a bike-sharing scheme. As he says “Cycling contributes to the health and well-being of our residents”.

However, a large raspberry to Table Mountain National Park for now charging extra to cycle on the roads in the Cape of Good Hope Reserve.

I can drive into the Reserve at the usual entrance fee and I can walk into the Reserve at the same entrance fee but, if I cycle into the Reserve, I have to pay extra for an activity card on top of the usual entrance fee. And for what? Cyclists use the same roads as motorists, with less environmental impact.

It’s an utter disgrace!
