Right now in Dakar, Senegal, Greenpeace is exposing widespread and systematic tonnage fraud by Chinese distant water fishing (DWF) companies in West Africa.

Scam on the African Coast”  a report by Greenpeace Africa, details how China’s biggest DWF company, China National Fisheries Corporation (CNFC), and other Chinese fishing companies, have been under-declaring the gross tonnage (GT) of their fishing vessels operating in Senegal, Guinea Bissau and Guinea.

This is a call to action, sign this petition to ask the government of China to investigate the GT fraud by its companies.

Yes, I support sustainable fishing

Greenpeace Africa calculated that, from 2000 to 2014, CNFC under-declared the GT of its vessels to the Sengalese authorities by 43% on average annually. Under-declaring GT is not only fraudulent, it has dramatic consequences for the economy of coastal states and even more so for local fishing communities.

Therefore, we demand that governments of Senegal, Guinea Bissau and Guinea to also investigate the matter.
