You are invited to a lecture by renowned

literary biographer

 Lyndall Gordon

Biography versus the Autonomy of Art

Tuesday 20 November 2012 at 7pm

Using her biography, The Imperfect Life of T.S. Eliot, as background, award-winning writer
Lyndall Gordon’s lecture considers Eliot’s insistence on the separation between life and work – a general talk on the way authors use their lives in their fiction.

Lyndall Gordon launched her biography on Emily Dickinson, Lives Like Loaded Guns, at Kalk Bay Books in 2010 to great acclaim. The depth of her research, understanding and insight into her subjects has garnered her many awards, and we welcome the opportunity to host her for this lecture.

Gordon will also discuss another of her books, Henry James: His Women and His Art,
with another local Jamesian, Michiel Heyns, at Kalk Bay Books on 11 December.

A formal invitation to this discussion will be sent closer to the date but early bookings will be accepted.

There will be a R50 entry fee for this event – payable in advance to secure your seat.

Seating will be limited to 80 people.

Book now by phoning the bookshop between 9am and 6pm on 021 788-2266.
Payment can then be made at the shop or via EFT.

invite you to the launch of

 Zuma Exposed

Adriaan Basson

 Friday 23 November at 6.30 for 7pm

City Press assistant editor Adriaan Basson is one of SA’s most respected journalists.
He will be in conversation with John Maytham about his new book.

This is the book President Jacob Zuma does not want you to read.

From Shaik to ‘The Spear’, award-winning investigative journalist Adriaan Basson reveals the truth behind Jacob Zuma’s presidency of the ANC and South Africa.

From one bad decision to another, this explosive, roller-coaster account traces the unravelling of a likeable but deeply flawed leader who came to power as victim, not visionary.

Basson forensically unpacks the charges against Zuma and reveals a president
whose first priority is to serve and protect his own, rather than the 50 million people he was elected to lead.

To be published on the eve of the ANC elective conference in Mangaung, this is essential reading for any South African who cares about the country they live in.
