Directed by Debbie Turner and celebrating their 4th year at the Masque Theatre, the students of the Cape Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) present a variety of art forms which takes us on a journey through our imagination focusing on the elements and moments of everyday life that make it special, enthralling, magical and exciting. Audiences will see a little bit of themselves in the myriad of characters and personalities as they are transported seamlessly through an engaging and uplifting performance, through the medium of dance, drama and song.
The performers include winners from the recent Cape Town Modern and Drama Eisteddfods. In addition there is a solo performance by Mthuthuzeli November, the winner of the most outstanding contemporary dance solo at the recent Cape Town International Ballet Competition (held at the Artscape Opera House). The Nathalie Vijver School of Drama presents extracts from Winnie the Pooh, Toy Story, Alice in Wonderland, The Addams Family and Voorkamer Stories, and an adaptation of Herman Charles Bosman’s humorous short stories. Nomfundo Xaluva, the vocal coach at CAPA will be showcasing some of her students’ vocal renditions of contemporary songs and well known classics.
The closing show of this season will be a preview of “Bliss” which is a compilation of the highlights of the above show which will be taken to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2012 (duration 60 minutes – no interval).
Beverley Brommert of the Cape Argus (2011) spoke about the CAPA students as
