A selection of TV news clips and short video documentaries which describe what happened during the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in 2011 as well as the general danger of nuclear energy (the unexpected radioactive fallout from the Bikini Atoll test, the Lucky Dragon Number 5 incident and why it was historically so important, how information about nuclear incidents is usually concealed from the public, and the possible effects on Jeffrey’s Bay of a nuclear plant there) will be sceened at the Labia on Orange cinema on Monday 5th and Wednesday 7th March at 18h15. There will be time for a discussion and questions & answers. Ferrial Adams of Greenpeace (on the 5th only) and Peter Becker, who recently visited Fukushima, will be present to answer questions where possible.
On Sunday 11 March at 18h15, the anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, ‘Into Eternity’, an award winning Danish documentary (in English), will be shown at the Labia on Orange. This film documents the construction of a nuclear waste disposal site in Finland and highlights the surprising problems encountered when trying to build something to last for years.
