Cartwright looks at the recent economic crash through the lives of the Trevelyan-Tubals –owners and managers of a prestigious private bank now in trouble because they fell for the hype about hedge funds. While they try to cover the deficits with family trust money, one unpaid dependant causes the news to start leaking out. The book is easy to read and the characters well-drawn and interesting from the conventional, wealthy but almost-dead Sir Harry to actor-manager Artair MacLeod who is reduced to producing an annual Thomas the Tank Engine but dreams of interesting Daniel Day-Lewis in the play he is writing.
