Nicola Jackman of Kalk Bay is the founder of the UPliftment Programme, a volunteer organisation active since 2003, committed to sharing the healing power of joy.
The UP spreads joy through training UP volunteer Care Clowns & JOY ACTIVISTS nationwide who in turn share joy with the children, parents and staff of their local hospitals or children’s homes every week. There are over 75 volunteer Care Clowns in Southern Africa, with a monthly JOYful UPliftment of approximately 3500 people.
“SHARING JOY IS OUR PASSION – We may be just 75 volunteers in South Africa who continue to care clown and be joy activists, but we’re also bravely doing what we can to bring more joy to the world… We are now in a global competition called “Possible Futures Film Contest” and our 1min 30 sec film entry is called ONE WORD…”
Please take a little teeny weeny moment and register and vote for UP and do what you can to spread the word too… tee hee… “

Nicola has been a professional performing artist for over 18 years. Her acting credits include 3 years in the soapie “Isidingo” as Elise Buller from 1998 to 2001. Currently her vocal talents can be enjoyed on the popular online political satire ZAnews with numerous impressions, including Premier Helen Zille and Charlize Theron.
Nicola is also preparing for her one woman show MAfrika – which will do a 2012 tour through Africa. Look out for a preview show of MAfrika at the out of the box festival at the MAGUS THEATRE in Observatory in early September.
As a joy activist, Nicola works with the serious side of laughter, inspiring audiences to step out of their stress & resignation, to become “yay sayers” and be more solution orientated. She is merrily affecting great joy in Southern Africa with her characterful banter and mirthful delight.
Asked about her sources of inspiration, Nicola replied:
“I love it when people are actively humanKIND – when they step out of their stories and take on really being for other people….activists, leaders, healers, carers, parents – people that selflessly give and make a remarkable difference – they inspire me.”
“I love sharing joy – it’s been a treat to be able to learn so much about laughter and joy other the years and it’s amazing how it affects every area of my life. It’s awesome to be able to share all that joyful learning with others & nowadays I spend a fair amount of time sharing joy sessions with adults in corporates and communities and it’s just wonderful to see folk lighten UP.”
“I am so thrilled to be alive in these awesomely changing times. Sure there may be some challenge – but there’s also an inspired amount of wonderful transformation and the conversations we all get to have with each other nowadays are less about problems and more about solutions. I’m a YAY-SAYER and I’m excited to see there are more and more joyful, soultion-orientated members of humanKIND everyday.”
Originally from Zimbabwe, but schooled in South Africa, Nicola has lived in St James and Kalk Bay for the last 8 years, thoroughly Uplifted by all that the Scenic South has to offer.
