The 18 July 2011 is Nelson Mandela’s 93rd Birthday.   Since 2009 the 18 of July has been celebrated internationally as Mandela Day. It  is officially recognised by the United Nations as a call to action for people to individually make a positive difference to the world around them.

Mandela Day was created to inspire people to embrace the values that  embody Nelson Mandela‘s life – democracy; equality; reconciliation; diversity; responsibility; respect and freedom – and to invite them to take responsibility to make the world a better place.

In honour of the 67 years Mandela spent fighting for the rights of humanity, people are requested to devote 67 minutes of their time to a positive action within their community. The idea is that every 67 minute contribution forms part of a global action for good and demonstrates the power of the individual to make a difference.  Its in your hands to help make this world a better place – starting in your own community on Monday 18 July.
