On congratulating the newly elected councillors for the wards covering the Scenic South Peninsula, we also asked Ald. Purchase, Cllr. D’alton and Cllr. Liell-Cock  to tell us about their vision and priorities for their wards.  While we still hope to get a response from all three councillors, we have already received the following response from Cllr. Simon Liell-Cock:

The Far South Peninsula Community Forum has spent  considerable time and money working on a vision – this is the vision of the public and my vision as well.

“Our vision is that those who live and work in the Far South Peninsula form a community of people from all backgrounds, races and creeds who respect and care for each other and their environment, and who recognize their responsibility both to share its unique beauty with visitors from across South Africa and beyond and to protect it for the pleasure and health of future generations.”

Beyond this, my goal as a councillor is to ensure that the City delivers services as efficiently and effectively as possible to the citizens.

In terms of goals I will be meeting with my fellow councillors and the community leaders to determine SMART goals for our area for the short, medium and long-term.  (SMART = Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic and Time-based).

My experiences of the past 10 years has shown that the following are the top 10 categories which will need goals (in no particular order):

1 Land use planning and Development:

Spatial Development Plan

Integrated Zoning Scheme

All land use development applications such as Dassenberg, Marine Oil Etc.

2 The Environment – the foundation of our economy in the Far South.

 3 Safety and Security:

Drug abuse

 4 Housing projects:

 5 Economic Development/Tourism/Employment creation
