The runners competing in the Two Oceans Marathon were blessed with magnificent weather on Saturday 23rd April 2011. Well done to the runners from Fish Hoek Athletics Club. Their top three men on the day were Arnold Hyde 03:47:54, Gimo-Zuada Matuso 04:02:23 and Andrew Cothill 04:29:57. the top three women from Fish Hoek were Charlotte Noble 05:19:42, Wendy Mcleod 05:22:21 and Beverley Mackintosh 05:26:13.
George Ntshiliza won the men’s Two Oceans Marathon in 03: 08: 31, the first time since 2003 that a South African has won the race. In the early stages of the race, Kenyans took charge. But as the kilometers ticked by, the East Africans fell back one by one. The woman’s race was dominated by the twin sisters Olesya and Elena Nurgalieva.
Enthusiastic spectators enjoyed breakfast specials at tables on the sidewalks in Fish Hoek calling extra loudly whenever a runner in the gold, black & white of the Fish Hoek Athletics Club ran past. An old favourite, Café on Main, sported its new image as the Blue Gecko while puppeteers and gumboot dancers from eMzantsi brought a welcome element of fun to Main Road. The puppets especially `Big Mama’ were a big hit. A number of runners broke ranks for a lucky high five from one of her huge hands before bounding off with renewed energy.

While the Two Oceans runners were slogging through the last few kilometers, a small ceremony to spread some Easter cheer was taking place in the Fish Hoek Arcade. The Easter eggs that local businesses had collected from the community were handed over to Pat Franke of the Community Police Forum for distribution amongst children in Ocean View and Masi by Ald Felicity Purchase.
