An impressive 68 runners (44 male, 24 female) from Fish Hoek Athletic Club (FHAC) are taking part in the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon this year.

12 will be participating for the first time, while Brian Molyneaux is a veteran participant with 27 Two Ocean medals. Mogamat Burghers is going for his 20th Two Oceans, a Double Laurel, while Serena Haupt is running for her Permanent Blue Number.

24 FHAC members have run the race 10 or more times to qualify for permanent Blue Numbers which says a lot about the magic of the race and the guts of the runners.  A fun run initiated in the early days of this 34 year old club was called the South-Easter, so if history is anything to go by, this year-of-wind should not have upset the training of the FHAC runners!!!   See the full list of participating runners from Fish Hoek Athletics Club below.   (Runners!  Those of us who watch in amazement as you just keep going would love to know Why and How you do it. So please comment and share your motivation with our readers. )

The 56km route follows Fish Hoek Main Road into Kommetjie Road and on through Noordhoek. The runners will be passing through Fish Hoek between 7:20 and 9:00 on Saturday morning 23 April.  The sun will be getting up as the first runners come through Fish Hoek.  Let’s give them, especially the FHAC contingent, a warm welcome as they reach the 21km mark on Main Road.

So! Get the family up early, dress in the FH Athletic Club colours of old gold, black and white and join the supporters having fun along Fish Hoek Main Road.  There will be music, action, breakfast specials and performers from the eMzantsi Carnival team including the Mahorshi Gumboot Dancers, the Mapiko giant puppets and drummers. The festivities will officially end at 10:00 in the Fish Hoek Arcade, with Ald. Felicity Purchase accepting Easter Eggs from the community on behalf of children’s homes and schools in Masi and Ocean View.  Look out for collection points for Easter Eggs at businesses throughout Fish Hoek this week. Please donate to help spread some Easter cheer.

We wish all our runners a great race.
