On the 14th February…..dance for justice

We are inviting women to walk out of their homes, their offices, their jobs, their schools, and dance. To find their posse, to find their place, to find their story, to find their location and dance. 1 Billion Rising is a vision of a world of women across boundaries coming together, walking, speaking, dancing as one on the same day, for the same thing – for the world to be a safe, cherishing, nurturing place where women can be their fully sexual, intellectual, spiritual, emotional selves without threat or terror, without intimidation or harassment.

OneBillion Rising is a promise that we will rise up with women and men worldwide to say, “Enough! The violence ends now. This global action is truly escalating and gaining force, and when we come together on February 14, 2013 it will be a truly global voice that will rise up.”  (visit http://www.onebillionrising.org/ for more information)

Nia HQ in Portland Oregon USA, Nia teachers in 46 countries across the globe, and teachers throughout South Africa will be adding their drumming feet to this outcry for justice – and so can you!

One Billion Rising is a social and cultural ‘revolution’ aimed at ending violence against women. Both classes on that day will have ‘theme’ of 1 Billion Rising – a place where you can join your tribe and dance.

Together with Kim Thacker and Michelle van Blommenstein, we are also planning a ‘flasmob’ – a getting together of bodies in music, drumming and dance. It’s happening at the Longbeach Mall at 5pm on the afternoon of the 14th at the ‘central court’ area in front of Edgars.
