Creating awareness and raising funds for the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS), a section 21 NPO, is something that the members take on passionately. The VWS assist in suppression of wildfires that hit our mountains every year. A concept was born this year that some people may say is little crazy but then if you want to create attention then you need to go the extra mile. When the going gets tough – the tough get going.

6 Volunteer Fire Fighters from the VWS are hiking 180km from Cape Point to Signal Hill, summiting the major peaks and then finishing at the VWS headquarters in Newlands Forest. The Fire Fighters will have to walk about 18 hours a day, with a few short breaks and little more than 4 hours sleep per day, to cover the 180km.

The event is taking place from 30th September 2010 and is ending around midday on the 3rd of October 2010.

The threat of veld fires after a dry winter  is very real in the Far South Peninsula.  Consider supporting the Endurance Challenge by donating to the Fire Fighters online see details below.
