Running towards yourself, a solo exhibition by Natasja de Wet features a series of large dynamic painted portraits, which will be exhibited at the Casa Labia Gallery from 1 to 31 March 2013.
De Wet sees humans as being in a constant state of flux, these portraits explore the action of trying to balance, or at least harmonize, the feminine and masculine sides of being. The inherent duality of our experience presents an emotional challenge and this series documents and explores de Wet’s psychological journey towards manifesting inner peace by exploring this internal dialogue. De Wet states that ‘it is a commitment to continuously reconnect to oneself as growth is a choice, a conscious decision, to establish a personal connection to the self and in doing so, one creates a space for new possibilities within our lives.’
The paintings are produced in Acrylic on canvas allowing for rapid and energetic application of paint and expressionistic mark making.
The exhibition opening will be held on Saturday 2 March 2pm at Casa Labia Gallery 192 Main Road Muizenberg.
Natasja will be holding an art workshop on Saturday 16 March from 10h00 to 16h00 and will guide participants through a series of self-portrait exercises exploring the external presentation of the internal exploration of self.
