The Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope will again be hosting its annual Dragon Boat Regatta. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, 15th October and will, as before, be held at Imperial Yacht Club in Zandvlei Sports Club precinct. It promises to be a day of fun and entertainment for colleagues, clients and family.

The Regatta is planned to raise funds for our Rotary projects and this year, recognising that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will particularly be directing proceeds towards treatment and care of breast cancer victims. To best achieve our aims we are working in concert with the Amabele Belles, a group of breast cancer survivors involved in Dragon Boat racing.

The Dragon Boats used in the races will include ten keen paddlers, as well as the necessary steersman and a drummer to set the sizzling pace. In order to ensure proper water safety some practice is required of all entrants.

Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope is seeking entrants for the regatta – bring your own team, or simply sponsor one of the teams drawn from poorer communities in the Southern Peninsula. Entry fee for a team is R4,500, which is the same as last year.

In the event that you are unable to participate but have been touched by someone suffering with cancer perhaps you would like to consider making a donation in memory, or thanks, in the case of a survivor, in such person’s name. We would still hope that you would join us on this special day.

The banks of Zandvlei provide an ideal opportunity for families to enjoy the spectacle. Food and non alcoholic beverages will be available but if you would like to set up a gazebo and or simply picnic on the grass and cheer on your team please feel free to do so. It will be a great day!

Your continued support for this event would be much appreciated as this will assist us in the work we do in the community.
