It is just a few days to go before the voting lines for the New 7 Wonders of Nature campaign close. Vote once more for our Great Icon – Table Mountain – t o better her chances in becoming one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature and so that South Africans can look forward to hearing good news on Friday 11 November at 11:11 – when the announcement is expected!
Make Table Mountain Greater than she already is – a world-famous landmark – drawing 4 million visitors a year! Did you know that Table Mountain was proclaimed a Natural Monument in 1957? Or that Table Mountain is the only terrestrial feature in the world to have a constellation named after it. Mensa the Table Mountain Constellation is one of the 15 circumpolar constellations in the southern hemisphere and was officially named in honor of Table Mountain by the French astronomer Abbe Nicholas Louis de Lacaille in 1763, during his survey of the southern skies from South Africa. He originally called it Mons Mensae – Latin for “the table mountain” .
Mensa is very faint but can be found because of the fact that it is part of the Large Magellanic Cloud the third closest galaxy to our home the Milky Way. So if Mensa does not shine with a bright light, at least help Table Mountain to shine by voting for it as the 7th Natural Wonder of the world.
