Dazzling illusionist and sleight-of-hand whizz at KBT for five shows only

Stuart Lightbody's show Dark Imaginings at Kalk Bay Theatre March 2012Master illusionist and sleight-of-hand whizz Stuart Lightbody is back to dazzle audiences at Kalk Bay Theatre for five performances only with his new show Dark Imaginings.

It will be performed Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 March at 8.30pm and on Sunday 1 April at 7.30pm.

Lightbody is renowned for his unique approach to the art of magic. He blends comedy, magic, illusion and suspense to create an evening of fascination and entertainment.  A South African National Magic Champion, he won a Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival last year for his recent hit, Stuperstition, which sold out at Kalk Bay Theatre in October.

In Dark Imaginings he explores the darker side of magic and illusion. “For psychologists the ink-blot test reveals hidden thoughts and dark urges.  In Dark Imaginings the entire audience gets to be part of the experiment… so, what will you see?,” says Lightbody with a smile.  “Be prepared to be amazed, even unnerved, but always entertained!”.

As a child, he picked up a pack of cards and has never put them down. His early interest soon grew into fascination and a deep passion for the secretive arts of magic and misdirection. He enrolled at the College of Magic, graduating in 2001 with the highest honours and where he now teaches. Lightbody has won numerous awards and competitions and performed extensively locally and internationally, including representing South Africa at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas in 2005 and at the World Magic Championships in Sweden in 2006. In 2011, he lectured and performed at the International Magic Experience in Las Vegas, USA.

Show credits include  52, Sleight of Mind with fellow psychological illusionist Bryan Miles and Telling Lies. He can be found entertaining anywhere from theatres and comedy clubs to receptions and dinner parties to corporate launches and conferences. Guests that Lightbody has had the pleasure of entertaining include such esteemed company as former SA Rugby Captain Francois Pienaar and Nobel Peace Prize winner FW de Klerk.

“It’s great to have Stuart back at Kalk bay Theatre in the Cape Town première of his new show,” says Simon Cooper, owner of Kalk Bay Theatre. “With our new dinner-theatre experience, guests can enjoy supper before the show and chat to Stuart afterwards over coffee and dessert – but don’t expect him to give away any of his trade secrets!”.

Dark Imaginings will be performed from Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 March at 8.30pm and on Sunday 1 April at 7.30pm.

Age restriction 13. Tickets cost R85.

Doors open at 6.30pm and seating is unreserved. Guests can enjoy a delicious two-course meal for R150 or three courses for R200, created by Kalk Bay Theatre’s talented chef Hannah McMahon.
