The Silvermine River Rovers are hosting a community work morning at the Silvermine Wetlands. Meet at the Clovelly car park upstream of the traffic lights and join us for an hour or two from 9:00 – 11:00. Council funds do not cover all the maintenance required to keep this eco-gem in good condition. The River Rovers, a small band of locals, work hard on an ongoing basis, but an enthusiastic group of helpers on the 30 Oct could make a big difference with the following:
– removal of alien shrubs and the watercress choking sections of the stream.
– litter removal
– trimming vegetation on upstream side of new stepping stones
– varnishing of benches
– clearing bush at some viewing points.
Come along for a short morning of fun and work . Bring gloves, loppers and saws – or just bring your energy and help as needed.
If you are not able to join the work party on the 30th, you may want to support the ongoing work of the Silvermine River Rovers by making a donation to the Friends of Silvermine Nature Area, Standard Bank, Fish Hoek, 07 385 2317. Your donation will be put to good use to keep the paths clear, benches varnished, alien vegetation in check, litter removed, etc. Click here to contact co-ordinator Evanne Rothwell.
