Please note that Main Road between Muizenberg and Fish Hoek will be closed to traffic from 07h00 to 09h15 on Saturday, 30 March during the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon. This is in order to ensure the safety of the runners in the narrow space available.
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, Cape Town’s premier road race, is being held on Saturday, 30 March 2013. The half marathon (21.1km) with 16,000 entries has a batched start at 06h00 and 06h10 with the 11,000 entrants in the 56km Ultra starting at 06h30.
The Half Marathon will proceed through Newlands, Claremont, Bishopscourt and Constantia before returning along Rhodes Drive and Union Avenue to UCT. The Ultra Marathon follows a picturesque route along Main Road taking the runners along the False Bay coast via Muizenberg before turning at Fish Hoek and proceeding on to Chapman’s Peak with its scenic views, through Hout Bay, up Constantia Nek to Rhodes Drive and the finish at UCT.
On race day Main Road is normally closed to through traffic between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay with a stop/go flow for vehicles between Clovelly and Kalk Bay. Unfortunately, with the reconstruction between Kalk Bay and Clovelly reducing the Main Road to only one lane and in order to ensure the safety of the runners, Main Road will be closed to traffic from 07h00 to 09h15. This is in order to ensure the safety of the runners in the narrow space available.
Vehicles wishing to proceed from Fish Hoek or Clovelly to Kalk Bay or beyond are advised of the following options:
- Travel before 07h00 – remembering that the access to Boyes Drive will be closed at 07h00
- Travel after 09h15
- Use Ou Kaapse Weg – remembering that there will be delays here up to 10h00.
