City advises of change in operating times at Driving Licence Testing Centres

City of Cape Town Traffic Services has noted that, due to the legislative five-year renewal period for driving licence cards, there has recently been a major influx of residents visiting the City’s Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs), thus resulting in long queues.

In order to ensure that those who are applying for card renewals and other transactions are assisted timeously, the operating hours have been adjusted to manage the process.

For card renewals and all other cash transactions, offices will be open Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 14:00 and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 10:00. All other transactions such as card collections and enquiries are open until 15:30 on weekdays and until 12:00(noon) on Saturdays. This arrangement will be in place until the end of June 2013, unless otherwise stipulated.

Drivers are reminded to collect their new cards within the cut-off time period as those not collected within 120 days will be destroyed. Drivers will have to re-apply for a new card which results in longer waiting times.

Residents applying for learner and driving licence tests, as well as card renewals, can now make use of registered optometrists for their eye tests. An appointment must be made with the optometrist, who will then conduct the test (free of charge), and supply the certificate accordingly. This initiative is supported by all local authorities and the ‘purple form’, as it is commonly known, will be completed by the optometrist and handed to the applicant. This form, together with the application form, will be accepted at the DLTC. Please note that even though applicants may have the certificate, they are still required to join the queue to conduct the processing of the application and to have their fingerprints and photographs taken.

Any enquiries can be directed to the Management Representative at any DLTC in the city. The contact details of the Management Representatives stationed at the respective centres in Cape Town are as follows:
