We are aware of the disruption that has been experienced by many of the users of the Main Road since the closure of the Main Road from 11 August 2014.  Thank you for your co-operation and patience in this regard so far.

Previously, we communicated that the road closure would be concluded on 22 August 2014.  Unfortunately, due to the very heavy rain over the last three days the construction works have been significantly disrupted. While the team have explored the possibility of opening the road despite not having concluded the works, it is clear that this option would jeopardise the safety of road users insofar as it will be impossible to complete the consolidation of the trench, gravel layer and surface the trench in such wet conditions.  The Contractor will be working the entire weekend in order to make up lost time in an endeavour to open the road by 16.h30 on Monday 25th August 2014 or sooner if possible.

Furthermore, please be advised that emergency works are underway on Boyes Drive and intermittent disruption to traffic may be required to offload machinery and materials however this will be kept to a minimum and only at off peak hours. The remedial work on the Boyes Drive slip could not be delayed as it is an emergency situation and could be further negatively impacted by the rain.

On behalf of the City of Cape Town we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
