It’s that time of year when Operation Shoebox, an accredited nonprofit-organisation based in Cape Town, once again gives supporters the opportunity to create Christmas magic.
Readers can pledge a shoebox filled with festive goodies for an orphaned or vulnerable child until 31 October 2013.
Register online at www.operationshoebox.co.za and become one of thousands of donors who have experienced the Shoebox magic.
Get the whole family involved in choosing, packing and decorating the boxes and use the opportunity to spoil a child in need, while teaching your own important lessons about generosity, love and having a heart for the less fortunate.
Choose a convenient drop-off point when registering. Shoebox has drop-offs in Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg this year.
Choose the child you wish to ‘adopt’ from the lists online then go shopping and make up their shoebox.
As one of our supporters said, “The inner child in me enjoys shopping for pretty stationery, lip gloss, nail polish, hair accessories and jelly sweets!”
And if you think your involvement ends there, think again.
Why not offer to help transport, sort and distribute the shoeboxes?
Hands on volunteers are given the opportunity to attend one of the Shoebox drop-offs, where they can get to see the kids receive and open their shoeboxes.
Bring tissues; it’s a heart-melting sight.
