The City Notice below is an appeal for Volunteers who will be utilised to provide a support base to Permanent Staff in conducting Daily Operational Functions in Law Enforcement. I believe that there are members of the Simon’s Town Coastal Forum and local community, who are able-bodied and experienced, and would be specifically prepared to support the Marine and Environmental Law Enforcement Unit in their duties.

In a recent joint exercise involving the City of Cape Town Marine Law Enforcement Unit, SANParks Marine Unit and SAPS Borderline off Kommetjie, scuba divers operating from a rubber duck were apprehended in a Marine Protected Area. The divers and the skipper were charged and their equipment and boat were confiscated. This success highlights the importance of a cooperative approach to marine and coastal law enforcement. Given that this Unit is likely to be based at Millers Point, it will be important for the Simon’s Town Coastal Forum to support them whenever and wherever we can.

Interested individuals should compile an appropriate CV (personal details and other relevant information) and either send it by email to Patricia.Francke@capetown.gov.za or drop it off at the Fish Hoek Sub Council Offices next to Fish Hoek Library BEFORE Friday 17 May 2013. Also send a copy to me.
